OTHER WRITING

My short stories have been published in magazines, included in anthologies and read on BBC Radio 4.  In June 2008 ‘Bad Luck for a Bride’ was runner-up for the Royal Society of Literature’s V.S.Pritchett Memorial Prize.  ‘Poor Maggie Kirkpatrick’ was runner-up for the Tom-Gallon award in 2014.

In September 2015, I won the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem, for ‘The Mighty Hudson’. originally published in the TLS. Chair of the judges, A.L. Kennedy, described it as ‘slightly crazy, very surprising, technically acute [with] some nice surprising imagery and experimentation – all the things you want in a poem’. It is included in The Forward Book of Poetry 2016.

In June 2016, I won the Society of Authors’ Tom-Gallon Award for my story ‘Otherwise Engaged’, which the judges called ‘a subtle study of the abuse of friendship’, ‘wonderfully deft and full of subtext’.

In September 2016, Clutag Press published Five Poems in their series of finely-produced pamphlets. It is available through the Clutag website at https://www.clutagpress.com
